General Scope


Introduction of IWSSC

The human desire to live in smart environments and to be connected anywhere, anytime is changing the way we interact with our surroundings and will drastically impact our society. With the prevalence of smart sensing and mobile devices, it enables information gathering and sharing of people and their surrounds, and hence becomes the fundamental motivator for network and computing evolutions. However, the fast growth in the deployments of sensing devices brings various challenges on sensing & perception, data integration & fusion and data analysis. This workshop aims to bring together researchers and engineers in the fields of smart sensing and computing to address the emerging challenges in general area of crowd sensing, networking for Internet of Things and mobile & pervasive computing.




The scope and interests for the special issue include but are not limited to the following list:

·           Fundamentals of smart sensing principles and mechanisms.

·           Smart sensors in multidisciplinary domains and problems.

·           Smart sensing applications.

·           Smart systems for context sensing and awareness.

·           Crowd sensing for smart internet of things.

·           Smart sensor data integration & fusion.

·           Soft computing of smart sensors.

·           Analysis, evaluation, and test of smart sensors.

·           Wearable or mobile smart sensing devices.

·           Security, privacy and trustworthiness for smart sensors.


Procedure for selecting papers, plans for dissemination


IWSSC 2018 welcomes original submissions that have not been published and that are not under review by another conference or journal. All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed by IWSSC's technical program committee. All submissions will be evaluated on significance, presentation, and interest to the workshop attendees.


All IWSSC 2018 presented papers will be published in the conference proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore.

Submitted papers should be written in the English language, with a maximum page limit of 6 printed pages, including all the figures, references and appendices, and not published or under review elsewhere. Papers longer than 6 pages will not be reviewed. Use the standard IEEE Conference templates for Microsoft Word or LaTeX formats found at:

If the paper is typeset in LaTeX:

·  Please use an unmodified version of the LaTeX template IEEEtran.cls version 1.8, and use the preamble:\documentclass[10pt, conference, letterpaper]{IEEEtran}.

·   Do not use additional LaTeX commands or packages to override and change the default typesetting choices in the template, including line spacing, font sizes, margins, space between the columns, and font types. This implies that the manuscript must use 10 point Times font, two-column formatting, as well as all default margins and line spacing requirements as dictated by the original version of IEEEtran.cls version 1.8.

If you are using Microsoft Word to format your paper:

·     You should use an unmodified version of the Microsoft Word IEEE Transactions template (US letter size).

Regardless of the source of your paper formatting, you must submit your paper in the Adobe PDF format. The paper must print clearly and legibly, including all the figures, on standard black-and-white printers. Reviewers are not required to read your paper in color.
